Strawberry Sauce With a Secret Ingredient

i like strawberry Sundays but I don’t like the commercial strawberry topping. It’s too sweet in my opinion but this homemade strawberry sauce for ice cream is a wonderful. The best summer dessert when strawberries or at their peak! No ripe strawberries? Not to worry you can use frozen strawberries too.
It has just the right amount of sweetness, mixed with tartness coming from the lemon zest. And the best part is, it can be used for more than just ice cream! This sauce is also fantastic over some homemade crepes , biscuits , or cheesecake or really even slathered on some buttery toast or stirred into yogurt too!
The ideas are endless but the ingredients are only few of them.
if you are using frozen strawberries, let them defrosting in the fridge overnight. They will release lot of liquid. Don’t throw it away, remember it’s a strawberry sauce so we will add water anyway.
Last but not least, let’s talk about the secret ingredient. For more gourmet flavors and shiny sauce. We will add butter at the end of the cooking process.
Strawberry Sauce With a Secret Ingredient

- 12 oz strawberry
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
- 1 tbsp water + 1 tbsp cornstarch dissolved
Instructions
- Place the strawberries in a medium-sized saucepan. Add water and sugar and stir to combine.
- Allow to simmer on medium-high heat until the strawberries start to release their juice and bubble. Mash the strawberries gently into a rustic, chunky sauce with a potato masher.
- Allow to come up to a boil then add the slurry, whisk to combine and thicken.
- Then add the lemon juice. Ones done remove off the heat and add butter, Allow to cool slightly to a warm temperature.
- Serve over vanilla ice cream!

- Served cold or warm.
