How to make strawberry applesauce in an Instant Pot pressure cooker, Crock Pot slow cooker, or on the stove top.
Applesauce is really easy to make at home. I like making it because I can make it sugar free if I use sweet apples. I have some sweet and tart apple suggestions on my how to make strawberry applesauce post, so check it out for suggestions.
You can make your strawberry applesauce in an Instant Pot like I did. It takes less than an hour to make. You can also cook it on the stove or in a Crock Pot slow cooker.
Strawberry Applesauce Recipe
Recipe details
Ingredients
- 5 gala apples or apples of choice
- 4 cups of strawberries pitted
- 3 tablespoons of honey to taste
Instructions
Instant Pot
- Peel, remove the core, and slice the apples into wedges and place in the Instant Pot liner. Add sliced hulled strawberries and honey or sweetener if desired. Add water until the fruit is submerged.
- Place the lid on the Instant Pot and set the pressure valve to seal. Cook on high pressure for 6 minutes. Let naturally release.
- Use a stick blender to blend the strawberry applesauce. You can also transfer to a blender, but it will be hot. Let cool and serve.
Slow Cooker
- Peel and core the apples, then slice and set in the Crock Pot liner. Add sliced and hulled strawberries. Add 2 cups of water and honey if desired. Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on high heat for 4 hours.
- Remove the lid and stir the applesauce until smooth. If it's too thin, cook on high with the lid off to remove excess water. You can use a stick blender if desired. Let cool and enjoy.
Stove Top
- Peel and core the apples. Place sliced apples and sliced and hulled strawberries in a large pot. Add two cups of water and honey if desired.
- Cover and cook the applesauce with strawberries over medium heat for 15 to 20 minutes. Then use a stick blender to blend. If the applesauce is too thick, let cook without the lid until it reaches the desired thickness.
Tips
- I recommend adding the sweetener after you've made it so you can adjust the amount.

Under the Stovetop #2, you wrote thick instead of thin.
I make applesauce often. I don’t peel the apples, which gives my sauce a pink hue. Adding the strawberries will give the same effect. And not everyone is a fan of the chunky sauce with peels, I make. Your suggestion of adding the honey at the end is good. I don’t usually add any sweetener to mine: often I will mix the apple varieties and it’s sweet enough. The strawberries will add sweetness, too.
I use unsweetened apple juice instead of water. It takes less sugar, if any at all, that way.
