Oh boy French onions, melted Gruyere, and a baked potato...YUM! You can see how everything is cooked perfectly.

We love cooking potatoes from scalloped potatoes to smoked baked potatoes. They are so versatile and can even be a time-saving dish. Our French onion potatoes are a flavor-packed light meal or side dish. It is also a convenient meal as everything is cooking at the same time. The air fryer has the potatoes baked quickly. Giving you plenty of time to make the French onions. Then you just put it all together at the end. It made a delectable light meal for two.

Pro Tip

Get all your ingredients together. So while the potatoes are air frying, you can start making the French onions to top the baked potatoes with once they are done baking.

Pick yourself some nice potatoes for air frying and everything else should be in the cupboard from the salt to the onion powder. The Gruyere cheese can be found at the grocery store or substituted with Gouda cheese. If you don’t normally have a bottle of balsamic vinegar just get a smaller one. Then, after this recipe, use the rest to make the marinade for our smoked sirloin tip roast.

Instructions

What I enjoy about using the air fryer to make the French onion baked potatoes is how everything is done while the potatoes are cooking. Nothing fancy here. Patience is the key ingredient to make caramelized onions. Once caramelized, just add thickeners for the finishing touch for French onions. Then add the toppings and put the potatoes back into the air fryer to melt the cheese. Oh boy French onions, melted Gruyere, and a baked potato…YUM!

Equipment

The recipe may sound fancy, but it is really easy to make with only minimal equipment. I used an air fryer and a pair of tongs to move the hot potatoes. To make the French onions you just need a skillet and a whisk.

Storage / Rewarm

Storage: You can store the air fried French onion potatoes for 3 days.

Rewarm: To rewarm, you can put it back in the air fryer at 350℉ for 5 – 8 minutes or until the temperature is of your liking.
