Beautiful 9 Strand Challah That Will Look Absolutely Stunning but Easy
Challah bread is quite easy to make and absolutely delicious. I have learned that is part of a weekly ritual to welcome in the weekend and a day of rest and my family gobbles it up!
Start by mixing 2.5 cups all purpose flour, 1 tablespoon active yeast
1/ tablespoon salt, 1/4 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons olive oil, and 1 1/4 cup warm water. add all the ingredients except for the water. Add the water slowly while mixing. Hand knead for 10 minutes. Place in a warm place to rise for 2 hours.
Once the dough has doubled in size, divide into 18 balls. You can use a kitchen scale to be exact but I just eye ball it and think its just fine.
Roll each ball into 9 strands.
Using 9 of the strands, separate into 3 sections and pinch the top, then braid.
Pinch the top and bottom and fold over. Let the loaf rest under a tea towel for a 2nd rise, about 30 minutes.
I usually make one plain and one spiced roll. I like sesame, poppy and everything seasoning.
Wet 1 of the other 9 strands in a little water and dip in each seasoning.
Braid it the same way.
Let the bread rest under a towel for about 30 min for a 2nd rise.
Cover in an egg wash and place on greased pan.
Bake in the oven for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.
These loaves will stun your guests with their beauty and taste.

Looks great!
We make a "French Toast" variety, where we dip the strands in cinnamon and sugar) before braiding.
Can you use a stand mixer for this recipe?
