Whether you prefer it smooth or chunky, slightly sweet or purely nutty, this recipe adapts to your taste. It’s perfect on toast, swirled into oatmeal, in smoothies, or straight from the spoon. Freshly made and bursting with roasted peanut flavor, this homemade peanut butter is a pantry staple you’ll find yourself making again and again.

Recipe details
Ingredients
- 2 cups roasted unsalted peanuts (shelled)
- 2 tablespoons peanut oil (or other neutral oil like grapeseed)
- ½ teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)
- 1–2 teaspoons honey or maple syrup (optional, for sweetness)
Instructions
- Prep the Peanuts (if needed):
- If using raw peanuts, roast them in a 350°F (175°C) oven for 10–15 minutes until golden and aromatic. Let them cool before processing.
- Add to Food Processor:
- Place the peanuts into a food processor. Process for about 1 minute until they become a crumbly mixture.
- Continue Blending:
- Scrape down the sides of the bowl. Continue processing for 2–3 more minutes. The peanuts will go from crumbly to a thick paste, then begin to smooth out.
- Add Oil and Salt:
- Add 1 tablespoon of oil and the salt. Blend again for another 1–2 minutes until smooth and creamy. If you want a thinner consistency, add more oil a little at a time.
- Optional Sweetener:
- Add honey or maple syrup if desired, and blend for 30 seconds.
- Taste and Adjust:
- Taste your peanut butter and adjust salt or sweetness as needed.
Tips
- To store, transfer to an airtight container. Store in the fridge for up to 3 weeks, or at room temperature for about a week.
