Idaho Potatoes or Russet Potatoes will yield the best result as they have the crispiest skin. Russets also have the best size for baked potatoes. Yukon Gold Potatoes or Red Potatoes will work too but those are usually best done as roasted potatoes.

Do you have to wrap Air Fryer Baked Potatoes in Foil?

Baked Potatoes do not have to be wrapped in foil, this is a personal preference. The foil will keep the moisture inside and allow for a softer skin. If you prefer a crispy skin, leave the foil off. If you want to have softer skin and keep the potatoes warm longer, then wrap them in foil.

Air Fryer Baked Potatoes are easy to make in the air fryer, it will depend on how large the air fryer basket is to determine the amount you can cook at once. Our Ninja Air Fryer holds about 3-4 large Russet Potatoes. Be sure there is room around the sides for air to circulate.

We also have an air fryer as part of our range and oven, this holds considerably more baked potatoes since these are in the oven.

How to Create a Baked Potato Bar:

One of our favorite dinners is baked potato night with a baked potato bar. If you want to do a baked potato bar, simply choose the toppings that you will be serving the potatoes with and have those set out in small serving dishes.

These toppings can be any of those listed above or others such as chopped meats like shredded chicken or pork.

How long do you cook Air Fryer Baked Potatoes in Foil?

Air Fryer Baked Potatoes are sprayed with a light spray of olive oil cooking spray, wrapped in foil, and then placed in the air fryer and cooked at 390 degrees F for 40-45 minutes or until tender at an internal temperature of at least 205 degrees F.

Tips for Making Air Fryer Baked Potatoes:

  • Season the Skin – Add a light coat of olive oil spray and a little bit of salt to the skin before adding foil, this will allow the skin to get crispy.
  • Leave the foil off – For crisper skin, leave the foil off the potatoes.
  • Watch the time closely – All air fryers heat differently, our Ninja Air Fryer takes 45 minutes to fully cook the potatoes, this will be dependent on each air fryer. The internal temperature should be at least 205 degrees F to be considered done. The potato should be fork-tender and easy to cut with a knife. The size of the potatoes will also determine the cooking time.

How to store leftover baked potatoes?

Once fully cooled, store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. When ready to reheat, heat in the air fryer at 350 degrees F for 5-10 minutes, add a light coat of olive oil spray to crisp the potato skins again.
