Cherry Starburst Jello shots topped with a starburst cream layer, a cherry, and a cherry Starburst candy.

I love making Malibu Jello Shots and Fireball Jello shots for parties. These Starburst Jello shots are another crowdpleaser. They're sweet, easy to make and have two tasty layers.

Why This Recipe Works: A Sprinkle of Food Science

  • Not Too Much Alcohol: This helps the Jello set correctly
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk Topping: It is creamy and less firm than the first layer for that classic chewy candy texture.

Ingredient Notes and Shopping Tips
ingredients including sweetened condensed milk, Starburst cherry gelatin, grenadine, and Smirnoff Cherry vodka.
  • Jello: I like using Starburst gelatin for the most authentic flavor. I found it at Walmart and used the Cherry kind. Strawberry would also be super yummy. Regular Cherry Jell works great too.
  • Vodka: Be sure it is chilled as this will help the Jello set correctly. I like using Cherry or Whipped Cream vodka. Smirnoff Cherry is my go to. Absolut Cherry is also decent. Readers have commented using Pink Whitney or Vanilla vodka when using strawberry Jello as well.
  • Grenadine: choose a real pomegranate-based option for brighter color and flavor.
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk: Use the full fat variety.

Krystle's Tips: Steal My Culinary School Secrets

  1. Cooling Is Key: Allow to cool before pouring into plastic cups so they don't melt. Also be sure to allow the first layer to set in the fridge before pouring in the second.
  2. Use a Glass Spouted Measuring Cup: It makes boiling the water in the microwave and pouring into the cups so much easier.
  3. Easy Transfer: Place on a sheet pan to easily transfer without any spills.
  4. Remove From Cups: If you want to serve outside the cups spray with nonstick spray and loosen with a knife.
