This simple Blueberry Square recipe is from my Mother in Law, not sure how long it’s been around but I’ve been making them for 20 years and they never disappoint. A recent trip to Maine and Stonewall Kitchen had me making these with a great big jar of their Maine blueberry jam!
I’ve also made these with canned blueberry filling and fresh blueberries, they come out perfect every time, so don’t stress over what kind of blueberries to use
Two sticks softened butter
Cream butter and 2 cups of sugar
Add eggs, one at a time
Mix in vanilla extract
Mix in the flour
Spread 3/4 batter in pan
This blueberry jam is SO good!
Spread 2 cups on dough
Dollop the remaining batter on top
Bake 30 minutes

Recipe details
Ingredients
For the squares
- 1/2 lb butter softened
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 Tsp vanilla extract
- 3 cups AP flour
- 1 can blueberry pie filling, approximately 2 cups or 2 cups fresh blueberries
Instructions
- Heat oven to 350 degrees
- I like to use parchment paper but you can also grease a cookie sheet with butter or crisco if you’d rather
- cream the sugar and butter together
- beat in eggs, one at a time
- add the vanilla extract
- beat in the flour
- spread 3/4 batter on bottom, it will spread so I leave about an inch around the edges
- spread the blueberries on top

Growing up, we called these "Blueberry Peek-a-Boo Squares". My mum always made them with canned blueberry pie filling. And she sprinkled cinnamon sugar on the top before baking. She got the recipe from a dear friend and it was written on a pink piece of paper that was in the shape of a foot! This was about 40 years ago and I remember that pink "foot paper" as clear as day. Thank you for bringing back a great memory!
