January 30th is National Croissant Day! Of course I had to celebrate!
Save this recipe! You’ll want to use it for your next brunch gathering (when gatherings happen again).
I had planned on trying to make my own croissants but just ran out of time. My friend gave me the great idea of making a casserole with store bought croissants and Midwest Nice also served as inspo for this decadent, croissant-filled casserole
This casserole can be prepared in advance. Just put plastic wrap over the casserole dish and store in the fridge until ready to bake. Let it sit at room temp while preheating oven. Always a fan of make-ahead treats!
Croissant French Toast Casserole
Recipe details
Ingredients
- 8-10 mini croissants
- 8 large eggs (don’t have to be room temp)
- 6 tbsp melted unsalted butter (slightly cooled)
- 2 cups reduced fat milk (almond milk works too)
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground clove
- 2 tsp ginger
- 1 tsp sea salt
- 2 tsp melted butter for baking dish
- Fresh berries
- 1/2 cup Nutella
- Maple syrup
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 F
- Combine 8 eggs, milk, cream, melted butter (slightly cooled), sugar, vanilla, spices and salt in a medium mixing bowl. Whisk together until smooth
- Use a pastry brush to spread melted butter on bottom and sides of 9x13 baking dish.
- Tear croissants into varying sizes and place on bottom of baking dish. Pour custard over croissant pieces and push down on croissants to ensure soaking up liquid.
- Bake for 40-45 minutes - until croissants are golden and custard firm
- Microwave Nutella until drizzling consistency and drizzle over casserole. Top with fresh berries and maple syrup. Powdered sugar would be good too!
