Best Vodka for Infusing
You can use any brand of vodka you like for this recipe, but here are three things to think about:
If you’re going to be sipping the vodka straight or using it in a very vodka-forward recipe such as a martini, use a top quality brand.
If you’re going to be combining the vodka with a mixer or cooking with it, then you can use a mid-range brand if you like.
If you’re going to dilute the vodka to make something like Purple Porky Passion Punch, feel free to go with the inexpensive stuff.
We chose 360 Vodka for this recipe, because we like the company’s commitment to sustainability and the bottle has a nifty resealable lid.
Best Bacon for Flavoring Vodka
You can alter the taste of your vodka depending on how you plan to use it, and make the recipe with any kind of bacon you like – it’s totally up to you!
- Applewood smoked bacon lends a nice smoky, savory flavor.
- Regular smoked bacon will be more subtle.
- Maple bacon adds a little sweetness.
- Pepper bacon will add spicy flavor.
Kitchen Equipment Needed
You don’t need fancy tools or supplies to make this vodka, and you may already have these items on hand:
One large baking sheet, plus aluminum foil and parchment paper for lining it
One 9 x 13-inch baking dish
Strainer
Cheesecloth
Measuring cup with a small spout or funnel
Empty bottle with lid
For the custom label, you’ll need an 8 x 11-inch label sheet or printable paper, and access to a computer printer.
Step by Step Directions
The first step is to cook the bacon. We prefer cooking bacon in the oven because it’s so easy and foolproof, but you can fry it, broil it, or use your favorite method. Drain the bacon really well on several layers of paper towels.
If your bacon is very crispy, crumble it finely with your hands. If it’s chewy, use a sharp knife or kitchen scissors to chop the bacon strips as we’ve done here. Then spread it in a 9 by 13-inch dish.
Pour all of the vodka over the bacon.
Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 days and up to a week.
Strain out all the weird pale bacon pieces. Press down on them to extract all the delicious bacon flavor.
After the first straining, you will probably see small pieces of fat floating in the mixture.
Put a strainer inside a glass bowl or large measuring cup. Lay two layers of cheesecloth inside the strainer.
Now strain the mixture through the cheesecloth.
Now, pour the double-strained vodka carefully in the bottle. You can use a funnel or a measuring cup with a small spout.

Does bacon infused vodka go bad? If you keep it refrigerated, it should retain its smoky deliciousness for many months to come.
What is bacon washed vodka? With a subtler flavor, bacon washed vodka is made from the bacon fat and pan drippings that are left over after cooking. It’s generally infused for a shorter time than true bacon vodka.
