Al Pastor Sauce - Easiest Ever
Seriously. Easy 5 Minutes… 10 Max. Pantry Ingredients. Sooooooo Good.
This Al Pastor Sauce is the easiest ever, lazy girl version of one of my favourite Mexican sauces.
This sauce is flavour packed with sweet pineapple, tangy vinegar, loads of spices and a hit of jalapeño. The best part is that it whizzes up in the blender and is ready to use in minutes. Obviously you’re not going to just eat it with a spoon (you could though!), so I’m going to suggest you make these yummy Slow Cooker Pork Street Tacos for dinner.
Sometimes I come up with recipes out of necessity. The necessity here was that it was cold outside and I did not want to get out of my jammies to venture out to the Mexican market for dried chiles and other lovely ingredients to make this sauce in the most authentic way.
And sometimes friends, it doesn’t have to be truly authentic to still be darn delicious. This version of Al Pastor sauce is every bit as delicious as any I’ve tried and because the ingredients are things you can store in the pantry you can make it all the time like I do… whenever the craving strikes. Which is a lot. 🙂
Onion – I like sweet onions because they give a nice onion flavour without being too strong.
Chili Powder – I use regular chili powder along with a little Ancho chili powder and paprika for depth of flavour. You can just use all regular chili powder if that’s what you have on hand.
Chipotle Peppers – we’re using the kind that come in the can in adobo sauce.
Pineapple – I use canned, crushed pineapple, but we’re blending it, so tidbits or even rings would work. Just use the kind that’s packed in juice.
Vinegar – I use either plain white vinegar or apple cider vinegar.
Jalapeño – you decide how brave you are… if you like it hot just remove the stem and throw the whole thing in. If your heat tolerance is a little less then take out the seeds first.
Al Pastor Sauce Recipe Variations:
Spicy Version – don’t take the seeds out of the jalapeño. Still not hot enough? Add in a big pinch of cayenne pepper.
Sweeter Version – add a couple teaspoons of honey to the mixture before blending.
A section on how to make this yummy sauce is a bit ridiculous, really, but in case you weren’t quite sure what I mean by blend everything together, here goes…
Add the onion, garlic, chili powder, ancho chili powder, paprika, chipotle peppers, crushed pineapple, vinegar and jalapeño and add it all to a jar or a blender. Add in your best chef’s measure of salt and blend away with either an immersion blender if you’re using the jar, or the high speed on your regular blender.
That, my friends, is it. Now go make some Pork Street Tacos… those delicious, kinda Mexican, but kinda Lebanese Al Pastor kind.
- Start the meal with my Five Layer Dip or Loaded Avocado Dip with Chili Crisp and some Margaritas!
- Veggie it up by serving it with my Elote Pasta Salad
- I think some cookies for dessert like these White Chocolate Orange Cranberry Cookies or my Fireball Whiskey Cinnamon Heart Cookies would be so good!
