This red white and blue funfetti cake dip recipe is the culmination of my no-cook July desserts so far. I mean, just look at it! It's creamy, fluffy, and tastes like cake but also cream cheese frosting... Plus, all the extra sprinkles on top. It's quite a patriotic treat, if you ask me, and probably my new favorite recipe for parties. I know I say this every week, but it's not my fault this one is so good.

Creamy nostalgic-style cake batter dip with sprinkles served as a patriotic red white and blue dessert

This easy recipe is perfect for memorial day barbecues, summer parties, July 4th, and even birthday parties. But so far, it's my absolute favorite for upcoming July celebrations when it's hot outside and I don't want to spend much time in the kitchen. My husband calls all my recent no-cook dessert ideas "good news" because that's his sign that summer really is around the corner. Fresh fruit and a soft dip.

Cream cheese, Greek yogurt, whipped topping, vanilla cake mix, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, salt, sprinkles, strawberries, graham crackers, and vanilla wafers arranged for Red White and Blue funfetti cake dip recipe
  • Cream cheese: Make sure it's softened. I prefer full-fat cream cheese for a silkier dip.
  • Cool Whip: Feel free to use the regular or low-far version.
  • Greek yogurt: I prefer it plain and unsweetened, but vanilla yogurt provides more of a cake-like flavor. Avoid regular yogurt as it's too liquid-y.
  • Vanilla cake mix: White cake mix is a great swap.
  • Powdered sugar: This is also called "confectioners' sugar." Avoid granulated sugar because it will make the mixture gritty.
  • Vanilla extract: Rounds out the flavors, but you can skip it.
  • Salt: Kosher salt is best. Stay away from coarse sea salt because it won't dissolve well.
  • Red, white & blue sprinkles: Buy them as a seasonal sprinkle mix or mix the colors yourself.
  • Fresh strawberries: Fresh cherries, raspberries, and blackberries are amazing dippers too.
  • Graham crackers: You can use your favorite cookies instead, even animal crackers.
  • Nila wafers: Any vanilla wafers work for this.

Variations

The best part of this luscious vanilla-cream cheese dip with a festive touch is that it can be made pretty much for any holiday, with different cake mixes, dippers, and sprinkles. Try these yummy twists so it never gets boring:

Make it a cheesecake funfetti cake dip: We love 3-in-1 desserts, so why not add a cheesecake factor to this cake dip? Add 3 tablespoons cheesecake pudding mix into the bowl when beating the cream cheese for an extra tangy, cheesecake-like flavor.

Birthday funfetti dip: Regular rainbow sprinkles turn this patriotic recipe into a year-round dessert.

Christmas-themed: Use Christmas sprinkles for a December-themed no-cook dip.

Swap the cake mix: Use a yellow cake mix, lemon, or a butter pecan flavored one if that's what you've got on hand. The color of the dip might not be pure white, but it's fine if you're not serving it for 4th of July.

Tips for Red, White, & Blue Funfetti Cake Dip

These are my best suggestions to ensure your chilled, USA-themed dip comes out perfectly light and airy every time:

Don't skip the microwave: Heat-treating the cake mix is important because raw flour isn’t safe to eat, so always microwave or bake it and let it cool completely before adding.

Avoid lumps: Make sure the cream cheese is fully softened to avoid lumps and get a smooth, creamy dip. If the cream cheese mixture has lumps (before adding the Cool Whip), let it sit for 5-10 minutes at room temperature before beating again for a smoother texture. This doesn't work once you've folded in the Cool Whip.

Keep it colorful: Add sprinkles at the very end and fold gently to prevent the colors from bleeding, otherwise the mixture might turn brown or gray.

Adjust the thickness: If the dip is too thick, add 1–2 tablespoon milk or a little extra whipped topping. If too thin, chill longer or add more cream cheese.
