FAQs about this Easy Coconut Ice Cream

Why do I need to use condensed milk?

Condensed milk adds sweetness and a smooth texture. It bonds with the water in the cream to lower the freezing point, creating a creamy texture.

Can I replace the condensed milk with another milk alternative?

You can replace the condensed milk with Dulce de Leche for a one-to-one alternative. You can also use evaporated milk for a one-to-one replacement. Evaporated milk is not sweetened so you will have to add sugar or the sweetener of your choice to get the same flavor and texture.

Can I use heavy cream?

Heavy cream has slightly more fat than whipping cream. You can use them interchangeably in recipes without affecting the taste. However, the recipe may have a different texture or consistency.

Do I need a mixer to make this recipe?

A hand or stand mixer makes it quicker, but you can use a hand whisk. It will take about 30 minutes to whip the cream by hand.

Is this ice cream gluten-free?

Yes, the ingredients are typically gluten-free. Always check the labels to ensure no hidden gluten.

Can I make this ice cream vegan?

You can make vegan ice cream by using vegan condensed milk and vegan cream. Vegans commonly use coconut milk based condensed milk and coconut vegan cream. Some popular brands are Thai Kitchen Coconut Cream (also gluten free), Kara Coconut Cream and Native Forest Organic Premium Coconut Cream. Make sure it is cream and not milk. The recipe will also be dairy free.

What are some good toppings for this ice cream?

Top with grated or toasted coconut, chocolate syrup, chopped nuts, or fresh fruit. Get creative with your favorite toppings. Serve it coconut shells to impress!
